Open offices

In large open workspaces, interruptions often happen because people cannot tell whether a colleague is available, focused, or already in a conversation.

Busylight gives teams a visible signal before the interruption happens.

Environmental Solutions Group

Open office · UC Alpha Busylight · Office team

“The Busylight Alpha product we use for our team is so simple yet provides a powerful solution in reducing disruption for each individual daily.

Our office is 23k sq ft, and most of our team sits at open workstations, which makes it easy for people to approach someone sitting at their desk.

The busylight helps to identify when it is okay to approach someone.

I am so grateful for a solution like Busylight for our team.”

Alex Bryan
Office Manager
Environmental Solutions Group

Why it matters
In large open offices, the biggest interruption problem is often visual ambiguity. Busylight gives colleagues a simple shared signal before they interrupt someone who is focused or on a call.

Healthcare

For healthcare and telephony teams, a headset indicator is often not enough. Teams need a visible external signal that clearly shows when someone is on a call.

Versiti Blood Centers

Healthcare · Cisco desk phones · kuando Combi Busylight

“We have a Cisco phone system, Cisco desktop phones, where some of our call centers absolutely need wireless headsets with external busylight indicators.

Once we upgraded to newer Cisco desk phones, we needed compatible wireless headsets.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer no longer supplies external busylight devices, just the small, tiny indicator on the headset itself, which doesn’t supply anyone with the proper indicator for the agents on the phone.

After extensive searching, we found the kuando Busylight, and after seeking support to ensure compatibility, we tried them out and couldn’t be happier. Perfect fit and compatibility.

Love the sensitivity and light timeout adjustment capabilities.”

Versiti Blood Centers

Why it matters
Versiti needed more than a tiny headset indicator. Busylight gave agents a proper external indicator and added practical controls such as sensitivity and timeout adjustment.

Contact centers and headset-based teams

When agents work on headsets, call activity is not always visible to the rest of the room. Busylight helps agents, colleagues, and supervisors see availability in real time.

Eyeq Monitoring

Contact center · Headset-based agents · UC Alpha Busylight

“During one of my meetings with my employees, they mentioned that it was frustrating to have people engaging in conversations while they were on the phone.

Since all agents are on headsets, there was never an indication that an agent was on the phone unless the agent put a customer on hold to notify the individuals around the area that they were trying to complete their tasks with the client.”

Ty Davis
Director
Eyeq Monitoring

Why it matters
When agents wear headsets, the work is often invisible. Busylight makes call status visible, so agents do not need to put customers on hold just to manage noise or interruptions around them.

City of Chesapeake, Virginia

IT service desk · Enterprise operations · Agent availability

“With Busylight the agents are now able to recognize when another agent is on the phone, and they can immediately lower their tone or move away from the agent.

This solved a concern for my employees as well as showed them that the company listens to their concerns.”

Sheila Carson
IT Service Desk Team Lead
Information Technology, Enterprise Operations
City of Chesapeake, Virginia

Why it matters
Once availability is visible, colleagues adjust naturally. They lower their voice, move away, or wait until the person is available.

Maverick Networks

Contact center operations · Two-week pilot · Multi-department adoption

“As a consultant supporting a client’s contact center operations, I identified a need for better visibility into agent availability.

Supervisors wanted to see who was on a call or available in real time, and agents needed the same awareness of their teammates.

Busylight proved to be an ideal solution. It was quick to deploy, user-friendly, and integrated smoothly with the client’s existing communication platforms.

Following a two-week pilot with the Customer Service team, feedback was highly positive and adoption expanded across other departments.

The results were clear: supervisors gained instant insight into team status, interruptions decreased, and overall communication efficiency improved.

Busylight provided a simple yet highly effective way to enhance visibility and streamline daily operations.”

Why it matters
Identify the need, pilot with one team, prove the value, then expand across departments.

Public sector

Public sector teams often work in structured environments where interruptions affect productivity, workflow, and the quality of important conversations. Busylight helps create clearer office etiquette.

Alabama Department of Corrections

Government · Microsoft Teams · kuando Busylight UC Omega

“Before implementing the kuando Busylight UC Omega, ALEA faced frequent interruptions in the office and cubicle spaces, particularly when employees were on calls while using headphones.

Without a visible indicator of their availability, colleagues often unknowingly disrupted important conversations, impacting productivity and workflow.

Recognizing the need for a solution, the team sought an efficient way to signal their status without unnecessary distractions.

The rollout of the kuando Busylight UC Omega was seamless.

Installing a few applications and plugging in the device got the team up and running effortlessly.

With its smooth integration with Microsoft Teams, the Omega instantly reflects users’ presence status, making it even easier for colleagues to recognize availability at a glance.

Once all 30 employees adopted the Omega, interruptions decreased significantly, fostering a more structured and distraction-free environment while improving workplace efficiency and communication.”

Justin Hoffman
Network Engineer
Information Technology Division
Alabama Department of Corrections

Why it matters
Clear problem, an easy rollout, and a visible workplace change.

Education

In education environments, interruptions often come from well-meaning walk-ins. Busylight helps staff protect focus time while keeping the office approachable.

West Virginia University

Higher education · Zoom · kuando Busylight Omega

“I work in a small department at a large university, and while I have my own office, I still get frequent walk-ins, especially when I’m trying to stay focused, during Zoom meetings, or when I’m on the phone.

I tested the kuando Busylight Omega, and it’s made a noticeable difference in how my time and availability are respected.

I mounted the light on top of my desk hutch using the magnetic base, and it’s clearly visible from my office door, which is usually open.

I integrated it with Zoom, and it reliably updates my status in real time.

Red when I’m in a meeting or on the phone, green when I’m available, and other colors for custom states. I use yellow as a ‘please knock’ signal and blue to indicate I’m not physically in my office but am nearby.

It’s a simple visual cue, but surprisingly effective.

Since using it, I’ve had fewer interruptions and more intentional interactions.

What I’ve come to appreciate is how the Busylight supports a culture of focus without needing to say a word.

In a university environment, where people often drop by without checking calendars, this kind of passive signaling helps reinforce boundaries in a respectful way.

It’s especially useful during periods of deep work, when even a brief interruption can derail concentration.

The setup was straightforward. True plug-and-play, and the light itself feels well-built and thoughtfully designed. I didn’t use the audio alert feature, but the visual status alone has been enough to improve how I manage my time and how others engage with me throughout the day.

Overall, the Busylight Omega has helped me create a more intentional workspace. It’s not flashy, but it’s not supposed to be. It just works, and for that reason, I’d say it’s been a worthwhile addition to my office.”
